Riverbend Live Youth Program

"This year DCCC funds enabled Riverbend Live! to substitute for our youth theater a visual arts project with a smaller number of kids wearing appropriate PPE and instruction by a local artist. The result was this wonderful whimsical rendering of river animals having their own concert at the river below the theater. New skills were learned and the kids loved it!"

"Many people don’t know that the Douglas County Cultural Coalition is made up of committed volunteers that work dedicatedly to support Individual Artists and Cultural Institutions throughout our county. Umpqua Valley Arts has been a proud recipient of these funds and they’ve allowed us to consistently bring arts and culture programming to our communities and to provide creative experiences for youth, adults and families. The Douglas County Cultural Coalition has been an important partner in our work with the YMCA to bring the Faces of the Umpqua Valley Project to Douglas County Youth! Thank you DCCC for all that you do to support creative community projects and to connect us all through your dedication to the arts!"

Sandee McGee, 2020 Grant Recipient
"With funding from DCCC grants, thousands of at-risk youth, a majority in the foster care system, have been provided diverse multicultural art classes and field trips. In coordination with Douglas County and Umpqua Valley Arts Association, students have been included in several exclusive gallery art shows, showcasing individual, unique self-expression in the arts of underserved youth, including the incarcerated. These events helped to build a strong sense of collaboration and community. The knowledge and skill gained by the students promotes healthy self-esteem, confidence and a greater cultural understanding. For many of the youth, art is a life force. Thank you DCCC, we could not do these programs without your vital support."
